About the Cottages

Situated on the remote and beautiful northern shore of North Ronaldsay, the former Lighthouse Keepers’ Cottages offer visitors a year-round, high-end, self-catering accommodation. Following the decommissioning of the cottages and the automation of the Lighthouse by the Northern Lighthouse Board, The North Ronaldsay Trust led a ten-year refurbishment project. During the restoration of the two cottages, meticulous attention was paid to preserving the historical character of these buildings. The 3-star, self-catering accommodation at the Lighthouse is one of only four such buildings in all of Scotland and the only one that is located on an Island.

The cottages provide visitors with a luxurious, historic base from which North Ronaldsay’s unique wildlife, landscape, and culture can be explored.
